The roar of the crowd filled her ears, many might not be able to take the words that they shouted out but hey it was all part of wrestling after all. Amethyst looked up at the squirming helpless man in her hands and smiled before pile driving him into the rink. The ref counted down until he called it, the guy was out and Amethyst had won, the roar of the crowd intensified.
“And he’s done it! Purple Puma has been able to make a clean sweep of all 20 of his opponents and is the winner of our Tournament of Pain!”
Amethyst smiled wide and pumped her fist into the sky, no one cheered in glee but in anger…whatever. Amethyst wasn’t doing this for praise; she just wanted to have a chance to be herself for a change. Her whole life, she had been told to hide the fact that she could make herself look however she wanted. It was so annoying, her mom told her that and so did Jasper who was supposed to be on her side! Now they had a home where they were safe again and still Jasper told her not to, like Bunny would get rid of them if he knew…he was a giant rabbit for Pete sake!
That’s why she started wrestling, it gave her a chance to use her power and not have Jasper chew her out for it. It was fun being someone else and rather therapeutic slamming someone else into the ground. She could take no one liking her; all that mattered was letting off some steam by pretending to be someone else.
After collecting her prize money, Amethyst used the alleyway to leave so no one would see her turn back to normal. She pulled up the hood of her hoodie and made her way home. Amethyst decided to use the short cut by the river, she had used it many times before but surprised to see a cardboard box and a small fire under the bridge; huddled around the fire sat a small family. They looked at Amethyst; a young girl hugged her mother’s sweater tightly it reminded her of when she and Jasper use to huddle together before being adopted by Bunny.
Amethyst dug into her pocket and pulled out her prize money, “Here, you guys need it more then I do.” She handed it to the family; the mother took it and thanked her.
She didn’t make it too much further when someone familiar greeted her, “I should have known that you’ve been sneaking away to play pretend but I didn’t want it to be true.”
“Jasper, I…”
“Save it!” Her sister step closer to her, “Do you have any idea what would happen if they found out what you can do? They’d take you away from me again or worse you could be killed.”
“It’s better then denying that I can even do the stuff that I can! All my life, you and mom have treated me like I’m a big mistake, like you’re ashamed of me!”
Jasper face dropped, “Amethyst…I don’t think you’re a mistake!”
“Then why do you treat me like one?”
Jasper was about to answer her when they heard a shriek, both of them looked at each other before rushing in the direction of where it came from. A gang of men had surrounded the small family; the father was on the ground bleeding and the girl was crying still holding onto her mother.
“Just give us the money!”
The sisters both looked at each other, words weren’t spoken but both knew what they needed to do. In a flash, Amethyst had transformed into an owl and dived bombed the gang members!
“Ah! What’s wrong with this crazy bird!”
A loud animalistic cry ripped though the night; one of the gang members turned his head just in time to see Jasper before she punched his lights out. The others tried to fight back; a flash of light caught their eyes and they saw another Amazon girl standing behind them. Both Jasper and Amethyst were able to fed off the gang members together until they had had enough and the gang members ran away.
Amethyst turned back to normal, she felt a tug at her hoodie and saw the little girl standing besides her smiling, “Thank you.” And gave Amethyst a hug. Amethyst gave her a hug back and looked over at Jasper who also smiled at her sister.
The sisters helped bandaged up the father’s head (luckily it wasn’t that bad of a head wound) and said their goodbyes, heading for home. “That was amazing what you did back there, Amethyst,” Jasper finally said to her as the rounded the last block towards home, “I’m…I’m sorry that I tried to keep your powers a secret, I’ve never been ashamed to have you as my sister…you’ve always been the best thing about my life, Ame…you inspire me every day.”
Amethyst stopped walking turned to her sister and gave her a hug; Jasper could feel her crying into her chest. Jasper returned her sister’s embrace and they continued on to home. Both of them were surprised to find that Bunny had company when they got home.
Bunny was sitting at the kitchen table of their apartment across from a very old looking turtle. He smiled at the girls when they came in, “Ah there are my brave girls. Heard what you did, how many men was it? 20? Oh no that was the wrestling tournament, wasn’t it?”
“How…?” asked Amethyst.
“Oogway told me.”
“Who’s that?”
The old turtle turned and faced the girls, “That would be me,” he got up and went over to Amethyst, “You have very impressive shape shifting powers, Young One, would you be interested in developing them further?”
Amethyst light up, “Heck yeah! Oh sorry, I mean yes I would.”
The old turtle gave a soft laugh, “It’s quite alright.”
“And Jasper,” Bunny got up and joined them, “How would you like to have some new sparing partners?”
Jasper thought for a moment, “sounds interesting…sure, why not.”
