The town was bustling. The hustle and bustle flew past the small-short twelve-year-old boy. Dipper Pines sat on the ledge of a stonewall reading. At least that’s what people would be seeing. What the brunette was actually doing was observing. His brown eyes easily followed the passerby. He made mental notes of when they were leaving, what they were wearing and just what they were doing at that moment.
The local con artist was busy playing an older gentleman for a sucker. Dipper knew the game well enough already. Find the Queen. The rules were simple; the con artist shuffled the cards, until asking the player to find the card. If they did, they won money. However, they never did. Dipper smiled as the man quickly slipped the Queen of hearts into his coat sleeve faster than anyone would notice. A young man was eagerly waiting for his sweetheart, the bouquet of flowers in his arms was a dead give away.
Dipper had always been extra observant. It was one of the talents that he took great pride in. He could always spot the little details no matter the situation, and in school it had helped a great deal. Especially with the bullies, but, today was the day everything would be put to the test. The watch on his wrist read 12:00 pm. Time to make his move. Adjusting his baseball cap, Dipper closed his book and made his way over to one of the biggest buildings in town.
“Cyclone Incorporated, this is it.” The boy sighed as he looked up at the building.
A very rich tycoon, who in Dipper’s mind was very corrupt and didn’t deserve any of the money he earned, owned Cyclone Inc. Inside, however held something that the youth wanted to get his hands on.
“Don’t be nervous, you’ve planned this all out.” He sighed, taking a few deep breaths.
Within the pages of the book that rested under his armpit was a chart that the boy had made over the past two weeks. If his calculations were right (and they had never been wrong before) then this would go off without a hitch. His legs were starting to shake, he couldn’t give up on this now.
“Don’t go wussing out now Dipper.”
With one more deep breath, the boy made his way inside the building. He didn’t have to worry about standing out in this place, no one was paying attention to him. Figures. Rich people didn’t care about those in a lower class.
“Okay, the receptionist should be going to lunch right about…now.” The boy smiled as the woman at the front desk stood up and walked away. He waited until he was sure that he could no longer hear her high-heels on the floor before peering around the corner and moved quickly towards the manager’s office.
There were no security cameras in the hallway that led to the door. According to the press, the manager didn’t think that it was necessary. Because “no one would steal from me. I trust all my employees.” Dipper rolled his eyes, thinking about how stupid this man was.
“Idiot.” He pushed open the door and walked inside.
The office put everything Dipper had seen so far to shame. The carpet was posh, the boy was pretty sure it was velvet. The desk was made with very expensive wood and it was neatly organized. The lamp beside it was made with multiple colors of stained glass. The walls were a smooth and shiny white. Upon closer inspection, Dipper could see it was made of white Marble. There was only one picture on the glossy walls. How obvious could you be?
“Time to get to work.” Dipper cracked his knuckles and carefully pulled the painting down.
Sweat beaded down his forehead as he carefully worked on cracking the safe. Click. Click. Click! If he hadn’t been trying to be discreet, the young boy would have jumped for joy. There would be time for cheering later. That old tycoon was going to regret not getting any security in his office.
“I’ve waited too long for this.” Dipper said happily. “All that planning will have paid off.”
Excitement was the only real emotion that he was feeling at that moment. He slowly reached inside to grab the contents of the safe. Within was a treasure, that he had only read about in the journal that lay under his armpit. The journal held a list of valuable items that the author had written about. According to this book, these items were claimed to be “unstealable.” Dipper believed that this was a challenge that only he could perform. Why else would the journal be discovered by him and no one else?
His smile slowly faded. The case was empty. “That’s not possible!” Dipper said. “It should be here, I did all the research?!”
Rubbing his eyes, Dipper checked the safe again. Nothing. Oh, he was so dead. He would be sent to jail.
“Oh, no no no no no no!” Dipper paced the room, his hands pulling at his hair. “I can’t survive in prison.” He paced the room before storming back to the safe. “YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE-“ he stopped as he noticed a small envelope within the corner of the safe. “Empty.”
The paper felt flimsy in his small hands, his brown eyes widened. The envelope had his name written on it. That was impossible. No one had spoken to him once he had entered the building, nor had he told anyone about what he was planning.
His mind raced. There was no time to think about it. Making sure that nothing was out of place, the twelve year old quickly left the building. Once out of the sight of passing eyes, Dipper tore open the letter.
Inside was a small sapphire, the brightest blue that Dipper had ever seen. The tear-drop shape was about the same size as his thumb. It was the same that had been mentioned in the journal. It had belonged to a tiara. The tiara of sapphire waters. But where was the rest of it?
“Maybe this letter would explain things.” Dipper said, shoving the jewel into his pocket before opening the note.
Dipper Pines,
If you managed to find this letter. Congrats. It only shows that my intuition about you was right. I have watched your progress within these past two weeks. You are a very talented young man. The type of man who could go great places. The tiara you are looking for, is now in the custody of the local museum. You finding the letter was only part of the test.
I run a school and a gang that could use your expertise. If you are interested, I am sure you will know where to find us.

PS. It may be the chance you need to find the other journals.
Dipper read the letter over and over again before sighing. “Guess I don’t have much of a choice in the matter.” The letter tore in his hands, and he allowed the pieces of paper to fall to the ground. “I’m going to become a thief.”
