“You better have the tools and weapons ready when we get back or less!”
Those were the least words from their boss before he and the other members of the group leave. Akame and Kirito were hard at work with their newest job. Nothing new to them through. It seemed every night they either had to make some new weapon or gadget for other members to use. In the past, they had asked what the items they made would be used for but got no answer. Akame soon learned it was best to not ask. It was only a breath.
Kirito was wiring a new robotic machine he build. He glanced over to see Akame working on a sword. No surprise in his mind. She always enjoyed making those types of swords outside of them all.
‘Still...there has to be a better place for us, right?’ Kirito thought.
He didn’t dare say it outloud. Not unless he wanted his sister to get in trouble alongside him. For most of their lives they had been only seen as tools. Nothing more, nothing less.
“...Hey Akame, where do you think the others went to this time?” Kirito asked. Partly to break the silence.
“I’m not sure. But it’s nothing we should worry about.” Akame said in a calm tone.
“Come on, you’re not even curious?” Kirito asked.
He raised an eyebrow a bit.
“I don’t find it very interesting enough to think about it.” Akame answered.
“...Guess I can’t argue with that.” Kirito shrugged.
Akame give a small smile to her brother. However, the smile turned into a frown. She glanced to the door. Kirito noticed the look in the black haired girl’s eyes. She grabbed a sword nearby.
“...Akame?” Kirito asked.
“Kirito, stay here.” Akame ordered. “I’ll be right back.”
“Huh? Hey, wait-” started Kirito.
However, Akame ran out before he could finish his sentence. Kirito frowned deeply. He grabbed one of his gadget, pocketed it, and rushed out of the room.
“Akame, wait!” Kirito called out.
No answer. The black haired boy started to run down some of the hallways. He moved as fast as he could.
“Akame?!” Kirito called out.
He kept running. Turning around corners, going down familiar hallways. But no signs of the black haired girl.
“Akame, this isn’t funny anymore!” shouted Kirito.
He seriously hoped this was a joke. Akame wasn’t always one to know a good joke from a bad one. No surprise given how she and Kirito grew up through. The cruel humor the gang members showed the two were what they thought were common jokes.
The boy soon stopped. In front of him was a blond haired woman who noticed the boy. She smiled.
“Hello. You’re Kirito, right?” The woman asked.
Kirito frowned deeply. This woman knew his name? And had somehow sneaked into the hideout. He slowly reached towards his pocket.
“...Who are you?” Kirito asked. Partly to keep this woman from realizing what he was doing.
“My name is Winry. A friend and I came here to see you and your sister.” The woman, Winry, explained.
“And why would that?” Kirito questioned.
Winry looked at the boy dead in the eyes. He saw the honesty in her own eyes as she give her answer.
“To give you and your sister a better life than being used as tools.”
(....)
Akame kept running, her sword in hand. She was ready to take down any foe who dared to attack. She wasn’t going to let anyone hurt her brother.
Her eyes glanced around. She tried to figure out which path the person could get.
“Well, seems you really did come.”
Akame quickly stopped. In front of her was a woman with rainbow colored hair and star tattoos on her arm. The red eyed girl frowned deeply.
“So you were trying to find me.” Akame said coldly.
“Yes but I’m not here to pick a fight kiddo.” The woman said.
“I find that hard to believe. The only reason people broke into here in the past was to start trouble.” Akame said, “Why should I believe anything you say?”
The woman shrugged.
“I admit, I can’t really make you believe me. I honestly doubt you know who I am too.” The woman with calmly, “But a friend and I are here to help you and your brother out.”
Akame frowned deeply. She slowly got into position to fight. The woman sighed and shook her head.
“Kid, I don’t want to have to fight you.” The woman said. “Just lower your sword and we can talk.”
Akame didn’t say anything. She started to charge towards the woman.
“AKAME, STOP!”
Akame stopped and quickly turned. Kirito and Winry ran into view. Kirito ran over to his sister as Winry ran over to the woman.
“Bismuth, are you-” started Winry.
“Don’t worry, I’m fine. The kid didn’t have a chance to put a scratch on me.” The woman, Bismuth, explained.
Akame looked at Kirito in confusion.
“Kirito, what is going on?” Akame asked.
“It’s a bit hard to explain…” Kirito started.
Winry turned to the siblings and bowed for a moment.
“Sorry for scaring you like that. My name is Winry Rockbell and this is Bismuth.” Winry started.
“As I was trying to say, the two of us came here to find you two.” Bismuth said.
“And why would that be?” Akame asked.
To answer the question, Bismuth held out a letter and held it out to Akame. Akame grabbed it with her free hand.
“To get you out of here.” Bismuth answered, “And to a better place called Leverage Academy.”
