Personality: Yang is a bright and cheerful young woman who always has a bit of a pep in her step, and a very forward way of approaching things. The only way to learn how to do something is to face it head on, even if you don't know what you are doing. Yang is shown to be very nuturing towards many of those younger than her, mainly her sister Ruby. Willing to run to protect anyone who may get hurt. She is known to be sarcastic and carefree often making jokes to lighten the mood if it gets too serious. If she considers people a threat, she will take them down no matter the choice, Yang can look into both sides of the story if arguments brake out and will often try to resolve things peacefully if she can. Often, with her though, she is aching to bring the beat down to the badguys.

How he got a letter from the Once-ler's Gang:
As a young girl Yang dreamed of being a hero, helping people and protecting the innocent. Around her teens, a group of fierce gang members moved into the city. Though the gang went unnoticed from most of the town, Yang knew that they were up to something. No gang ever came to the city just to relax. Through sheer luck (though some would call it bad luck) she discovered that the gang was participating in very illegal actions. The gang, Yang learned was called the Silver Vipers, a very dangerous gang. They took part in drug smuggling, black marketing. Keeping it a secret from everyone else, during the nighttime she sent the runts back to their leader. A message to get out of her town.
Their leader eventually learned of Yang's identity and her weakness. Ruby Rose (her little sister). The gang kidnapped Ruby to use her as leverage. The terms for her sister's release was to turn the blind eye to their actions, or join the gang. Ruby would be released. Yang, obviously, refused and proceeded to do what she did best. Kick the crap out of people who hurt her family. However, before she could get close to the leader, a bomb went off in the building, rubble came from the ceiling, not wanting Ruby to get hurt, Yang pushed her sister out of the way.
The world went black. Yang was sure she was going to die, as she traveled in an endless abyss she was approached by a spirit. This spirit told her to take her hand. It would be okay. The next minute Yang awoke in a bed, her uncle Qrow sitting beside her. Ruby was safe and so was she. Qrow explained that she was a special child now. Long ago, before either of them were born, Qrow had made a deal with a spirit of life to protect those dear to him, when he heard about Yang's brave sacrifice, he had willingly gave up the power to save her.
Now Yang had powers that she couldn't believe, her eyes would glow red and her powers would excel 10 fold. Learning how to control it though was something that Yang would have to learn on her own. Oogway mistook her for another mystic candidate, but was surely mistaken after seeing how powerful and dangerous she was when destorying objects. Panda King thought she was a valuable warrior, and that he would take her on in his stead. Yang agreed, if only to protect the world from danger. She left to join the Academy, with no word to Ruby or her uncle. Just a note saying that she was leaving and would try to send news as soon as she could.
