Name: Marina Perez
Age: 18
Family: Marina did have both a mother and father who did raise her to be a charming young woman. Unfortunately at around seven years old, the two divorced due to her father being a grifter, and he was put in jail for being one, while he was trying to do the right thing since his family was poor regardless. So, as a result, Marina lived with her mother until the age of eleven when she bailed her husband out of jail. So, at around eleven, Marina had to switch between her mother, who still continued to raise her to be a young woman and her father, on the other hand, told her that being a grifter was not that bad since he was doing that act to save his family from being in poverty. So, Marina did learn a couple of tricks or two from him and she became a grifter at around seventeen and did it for a year. Although she was nervous about getting arrested like her father did, she was a able to help the family. When she turned around eighteen years old, she moved out of her parent's home and got her own apartment, where she does continue to be a grifter, and she not only helped the town community, but herself since she's currently living on her own until she got into Leverage, by a letter of acceptance.
Personality: Marina is a young woman who is really for all sorts of adventure and mayhem, in a "good way". She does have a big heart for not only kids and teens, but also, for anyone who is going through an issue, since she's willing to listen to anyone's problem. She could be a bit mischievous at times, since she's part of a "bad guy" academy that would hopefully make her a good guy, but yet tries to have fun. Although she may be old to join a school, she does at least try to learn anything she could from a teacher, or any team member to absorb all the information she could before going into the real world, even though she's used to it by now. She does like to talk about her grifting technique to other people, as she does like to put on a good show. At times, she does like to put an idea into play, so, she may put suggestions here and there. She doesn't like to discuss her past since her family was close to poverty and doesn't like to talk about her parent's lives they much either, so, she could be secretive at times. She does at least try to talk about her father's grifting, as that gave her the idea on helping her family. Marina does try to at least get along with people, even though she could act suspicious on whom she first meets. For fun, Marina does like to wear sunglasses and whenever she's stressed, she listens to her music on her headphones. Overall, Marina is a fun young woman with a bit of mischief, even though she does her acts for fun, and tries to at least not get caught by the interpol or cops.
Style of thieving: Like her father, Marina is a grifter. She, before officially becoming one on her own, she got taught from her father, and did it for a year to at least help out the family before being independent, and doing it on her own. She mainly prepares to make people for her tricks by bringing costumes and all sorts of make up look like she's either crying or being elderly. She also uses her looks and acting to make the "victims" believe her stories that she made up before grabbing the item she mainly needs. Her father, however, never used costumes, like Marina did, but mainly did acting since he was a theater major before he did his "criminal" act, when marrying and raising a family. So, Marina does at least make an attempt to use her acting skills believable. Marina also wanted to be an actress, so, being a grifter, although not a good start to improve her acting skills, at least made her learn on how to get attention. So, and could accomplish her goal, which is earning the item to donate to charity or to someone in the poor district.
How they got a letter from Once-Ler's Gang: Before Marina became a grifter, she did live with two parents that was unfortunately near the poor district. So, her father, with the acting skills coming in handy for a long time, became a grifter, and Marina, when she was young, had no idea that being one was bad, but at the same time, good. She did hear arguments about him being one, and Marina felt as though she was getting mixed messages from both parents whenever they fought. At around the age of seven, her father got caught by the police and was arrested for stealing, but in his defense, he wanted to help his family and Marina finally gave in into being one and thought about it, even though her father was in jail. Her mother a couple of years later, did manage to bail her own husband out of jail by working at a clothing store that was luckily giving her a good paycheck. After bailing Marina's father, both parents got divorced when she turned eleven years old. She had to live with her mother on the weekend and with her father for the rest of the week, even though she didn't tell her mother that she was learning on how to become a grifter and stealing items from all sorts of stores, as she wanted to chip in and help the family. At around the age of seventeen, she fully understood in what it's like to be a grifter and started to go into her father's acting crime and started to have her own style of gritting. Unlike her father, Marina did have costumes and make up, that did try to have people fall for her tricks. So, after doing this for at least a year, she did manage to bring home some money for her family. So, she moved out of her parent's home at the age of eighteen and she found an apartment on her own. The apartment, although it was in the middle class section of the city, she wanted to at least get some money for herself and live in her father's legacy. She did continue to be a grifter and stole from stores and donated money, from a wallet that she found in the middle of walking back to her apartment. When she was on her way home, she bumped into a young lady with blonde hair. Marina, at first raised an eyebrow in disgust, thinking she was a police officer. The young woman told her she wasn't and wanted to know if she was a grifter. Marina, at first thought the young woman was crazy as she asked her the question. Marina answered the blonde haired woman's question by revealing that she's been one for at lest for a year, and mentioned that her father was one and her parents had to divorce because of him being one. The blonde haired woman understood and thought that being a grifter was not that bad, and also revealed her name being "Rapunzel". Rapunzel also revealed that she's a teacher at a school called "Leverage", a place on where the many thieves learn on how to become better ones and she also mentioned that the school was looking for grifters as well. So, Marina did entertain her by revealing that she had to act like a "crybaby" just to grab items. Rapunzel thought that was funny as she never heard of that act before. After their meeting, Rapunzel and Marina parted, and the blonde haired woman ended it by mentioning that she'll mention her to the administrator of the academy. As Marina got home, she relaxed and thought that she had a long day of grifting and meeting a teacher. The next day, she got a letter from Leverage mentioning that she got accepted into the academy. Marina, while reading the letter, thought of her father being proud of her for keeping the tradition of grifting alive and even thought of him being satisfied with her by going into an academy, involving her learning on how to become a better thief, even though she "steals" for a good purpose, and not doing that action to be bad.
