"Your aunt doesn't sound like a nice person." Sasami frowned, thinking about how horrible it must have been for Melody to have an aunt like that. She was relieved that the girl was away from all that. "Well, if she comes looking, I am sure we can do something about it. After all, she will be messing with a bunch of thieves and other interesting people." She smiled and ran a finger over one of the shells. "I don't have anyone like that, my mom was kind of overprotective though." "So was my aunt. I don't know why she wanted me to stay away from the sea. Maybe it was because Dad and I liked it so much..." Melody looked back at all of the times Vanessa was a complete jerk. "She'd rather have my time be spent learning on," she put her hands up at formed air quotes on the next couple of words, " 'how to become a proper lady' and all of that crap." Sasami's nose scruched up in disgust at the thought of being a proper lady. "Sounds hard, I am sure being here is a big relief." the girl said keeping her smile on her face. "My mom wasn't bad, when my dad was alive, but after the accident, she changed. The woman who used to be so happy and loving, because worried and sad. I didn't like it." Sasami sighed. "I wanted to see the world, and have the freedom my father had talked about." Of course it had ended up that way, but Sasami was sure that her mother was hurt very hard about being left alone. |

She rolled her eyes remembering how hard it was to have her mother constantly checking up on her to make sure she didn't go into the ocean or leave the house without her permission. It felt like she had been on a leash. |

"Be glad you didn't have to learn the 'proper' way to eat your soup or how to dance the foxtrot or 'the right way to say words'." Melody huffed and giggled in hindsight. "I mean, who cares which spoon you use? They're all spoons, am I right?". She then stood up and mimicked her aunt, straightening her posture, "No, no, no, Melody! You need to eloooooooooooooooooongate your voooooooooowellllllllllllls souuunds, like this..." She quickly sped through another articulation exercise that Vanessa made her go through multiple times, "Through three cheese trees three free fleas flew.
While these fleas flew, freezy breeze blew.
Freezy breeze made these three trees freeze.
Freezy trees made these trees' cheese freeze.
That's what made these three free fleas sneeze." she then let in one long gasp of air..

Sasami's nose wrinkled up even more. Melody's aunt sounded awful. "No, nothing like that. My mom didn't want me to really get out of the house, despite the fact that I wanted to be out on the ocean." she sighed, "She wanted me to be kind of like to the little house wife that would cook and clean and grow up to live in that house forever."
She twisted her blue pigtail in her finger. "I decided enough was enough, and ran away. Or rather stowed away on Captain Malik's ship and well here I am. I am glad you are away from all that Melody."

Melody's nose wrinkled as well. "A housewife? That's probably worse than my situation! I can't stay in one place forever. (especially when you're being married off to a creep)," she murmured the last bit, not wanting her roommate to hear any more of Vanessa's crazy cruelties. "So... how was it on Malik's ship?"

"It was different than my little town." Sasami said with a tiny smile. "Though, i think it surprised the crew that the captain would adopt a child, I guess he was pretty strict and they didn't think that he had it in his heart to adopt someone from a little fishing town." she smiled, remembering when the captain had found her opening a crate of apples and was eating them. He had just smiled and welcomed her up on the deck.
The green haired girl's eyes sparkled. "The crew eventually warmed up to me, it was kind of strange, they liked having me around. I sang and danced, and helped them look for treasure."
