Personality: Ever since she was a little kid, Ruby wanted to be like the heroes from stories she would read. She can be a very open and honest person which sometimes causes her to have trouble picking up on social clues like when someone is being sarcastic. While she is a kind hearted person, Ruby can have some trouble with making new friends at first. Partly due to how she can come off as social awkward at times. However, when she is put into danger, Ruby adopted to the problem at hand once she learns and realize certain information.

How he got a letter from the Once-ler's Gang: After an event with a gang in the town she lived in and Yang leave so suddenly, Ruby had set out to find Yang. Ruby felt like it was her fault Yang leaved due to how the younger girl was kidnapped by the gang to try to get Yang to do as they said. Ruby most likely would have been dead if her sister didn’t push her out of the way in time when a bomb went off. She left a note to Qrow at she would keep in touch as much as possible and would find Yang as soon as she could.

It was during her travel when she ran into Mavis. Ruby was in a small town when she saw a corrupted business man mistreating a family she could tell was from a class lower than the man. She tried to help the family out, only to end up on the ground. The man walked off as Ruby was angry to see how he acted towards the family. After she made sure they won’t hurt and they made sure she was already and give her their thanks, she followed after the man. The area was a bit crowded so the man didn’t spot her. Ruby noticed his wallet sticking out a bit from his back pocket. From what she could tell, he had tons of money. However, she was unsure on taking it. She knew it was wrong to steal but recalled the family and honestly people who could use the money. Carefully, Ruby stole the wallet and quickly ran off before he could realize what had happened.

Ruby found the family from earlier and slipped some of the money into the father’s pocket when he wasn’t looking. Ruby planned to donate the rest of the money to people who needed it as well. Unknown to her, Mavis had seen what Ruby did. She came to the girl and talked to Ruby. Ruby was freaked out, thinking Mavis was a member of the police. Mavis was able to calm Ruby down by explaining she wasn’t part of the police and at Ruby did a good thing by helping the family. Mavis handed Ruby a letter and explained Ruby improve in her skills.
