Makoto is the human offspring of a selkie, his sister is a fullblooded selkie.When his mother left him and his sister on an island with their father. Their father being a fisherman decided to go out on his boat and seach for kids. Leaving Kanon and Makoto alone on the island to defend for themselves. One night there was a hurricane that sweapt off the coast of the island, they never saw their father or anyone after that boat storm for years.

It wasn't until years later that a certain Frogman visited the island. Makoto not realizing that he was a teacher accidently started to flirt a little with the redhead and showed her the island and his dolphin friend. Arial finally explained that she was a teacher at an academy for theives and that she heard stories about a boy with wicked water skills and acted like he was one with the water. Makoto escorted Arial back to the house where he said that he the man. Arial was so happy and told him that once she cleared things away with Oncler that he could join the Academy. Makoto grew worried about his sister Kanon living alone on the island, once the leter came. Kanon assured him that she was going to be alright and to look out into the ocean that if he saw a white sealion, that means that she has come over to visit her mortal brother that she loved so much. Makoto sailed off the island and entered the school.
