Three Separate Bags
Intro
In a small town somewhere in the interior of British Columbia, there is an orphanage that goes by the name of Brookside Orphanage. It is not particularly happy place, but then again, orphanages rarely are. If you were to go inside, walk up the stairs, turn left, walk down the corridor of bedrooms, (all with a few lonely occupants inside) and take another left, you would find yourself in what is secretly known among the orphans as The Delinquents Dungeon. All the children and teenagers in Brookside refer to their sections as ‘dungeons’. Delinquents Dungeon is known to hold some of the rowdier and troublesome orphans.
For in some cases, they truly are troublesome and unmanageable. Some are hurting inside and do not know how to communicate their pain. In some rare cases, you could say they are….exceptional. They simply have not yet learned how to use their talents for a greater purpose. This is the case with the occupants of room 303.
If you were to go inside this room, you would see three child-size beds. One has been neatly made; the covers are crisply tucked into the corners, the pillow has probably been plumped a few times and the creases have been meticulously smooth out of the blankets. Leaning against the pillow is a black, slightly worn but well kept computer bag. The bed in the middle has been made but in a careless manner. The blankets have been pulled up but there are wrinkles, the covers are escaping from the corners and the pillow lies at an angles as if it has been flung into place as the occupant left in a hurry. The bed is also covered in simple black notebooks which hold extensive notes and even a detailed drawing of the entire orphanage. Lying next to the notebooks is a black backpack with a name patch neatly stitched onto it. the stitches are neat and small, mostly likely done by someone who cared deeply for the owner of the backpack. The last bed has not been made at all. The blankets are bunched up in a ball around the headboard and the sheets are all twisted, half of them are on the ground. The pillow cannot be seen at all. But with some determined searching, you might locate it on the floor, half under the bed. Beside the pillow, is an old suitcase. It looks more like an old-fashioned briefcase as it is somewhat small for a suitcase. It is brown and very worn. The corners are held to get by sheer determination and duck tape. The outside of the suitcase is covered with scratches and even a few burn marks. It is locked and will not open for anyone but it’s owner. Despite the rather tatty appearance, it is easy to see that the suitcase has been well-loved and much used by it’s owner. Three beds, three bags, three owners and one room. There are stories inside this small room in ‘Delinquents Dungeon’. Care to know them?
